Pain relief after vertebroplasty is immediate, is sustained for at least a year, and is significantly greater than that achieved with conservative treatment, at an acceptable cost.Ĭopyright © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. In a subgroup of patients with acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures and persistent pain, percutaneous vertebroplasty is effective and safe. No serious complications or adverse events were reported. Osteoporotic spinal fractures are unique in that they may occur without apparent trauma. Osteoporosis is the underlying cause of many lumbar fractures, especially in postmenopausal women. The difference between groups in reduction of mean VAS score from baseline was 2♶ (95% CI 1♷4-3♳7, p<0♰001) at 1 month and 2♰ (1♱3-2♸0, p<0♰001) at 1 year. Fractures of lumbar vertebrae occur in the setting of either severe trauma or pathologic weakening of the bone, see image R L4 compression fracture. Vertebroplasty resulted in greater pain relief than did conservative treatment difference in mean VAS score between baseline and 1 month was -5♲ (95% CI -5♸8 to -4♷2) after vertebroplasty and -2♷ (-3♲2 to -1♹8) after conservative treatment, and between baseline and 1 year was -5♷ (-6♲2 to -4♹8) after vertebroplasty and -3♷ (-4♳5 to -3♰5) after conservative treatment. 229 (53%) patients had spontaneous pain relief during assessment, and 202 patients with persistent pain were randomly allocated to treatment (101 vertebroplasty, 101 conservative treatment). This study is registered at, number NCT00232466.īetween Oct 1, 2005, and June 30, 2008, we identified 431 patients who were eligible for randomisation. The primary outcome was pain relief at 1 month and 1 year as measured by VAS score. The focus of treatment in most people with a compression fracture is to control the pain and get the individual back up and moving. Most pain caused by compression fractures can take up to 3 months to. Masking was not possible for participants, physicians, and outcome assessors. Overall, the compression fracture healing time will vary on a patient-by-patient basis. Patients were randomly allocated to percutaneous vertebroplasty or conservative treatment by computer-generated randomisation codes with a block size of six. Patients were aged 50 years or older, had vertebral compression fractures on spine radiograph (minimum 15% height loss level of fracture at Th5 or lower bone oedema on MRI), with back pain for 6 weeks or less, and a visual analogue scale (VAS) score of 5 or more. treating vertebral compression fractures aims to restore mobility, reduce. Patients were recruited to this open-label prospective randomised trial from the radiology departments of six hospitals in the Netherlands and Belgium. treatment of unstable wedge fractures involves reduction - which may be open or. We aimed to clarify whether vertebroplasty has additional value compared with optimum pain treatment in patients with acute vertebral fractures. Fluid-sensitive MRI sequences (short tau inversion recovery or fat-saturated T2-weighted imaging) help detect new acute adjacent level fractures after VCF. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is increasingly used for treatment of pain in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, but the efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and safety of the procedure remain uncertain.

Those were the humble beginnings of Armagetron Advanced's game play, which has now blossomed into 16 player mayhem, with highly advanced AI, network game play, and of course all in a 3D environment. The player must then get the AI to crash into their wall while avoiding hitting the AI's own wall themselves. This list was generated by starting Armagetron Advanced version 0.2.8.3. At the time of this writing, a new release 0.2.7.1 has just been made public that fixes, among others, some security issues of interest for people running a server. Armagetron has been obsoleted by Armagetron advanced. The original game consisted of 4 sub-games, the only one of concern is the 'Light Cycles' one, in which the player uses a left/right joystick to control a 'Light Cycle' which leaves a wall behind it wherever the cycle it goes, turning only at 90 degree angles. When the original TRON came out back in 1982, almost every kid wanted to race the Light Cycles (I know I did). Good heavens there are way too many dry coffee cakes in the world. The cake crumb needs to be tender, buttery, a bit crumbly, but still retain structure. Coffee cake has long been a family favorite, and not at any coffee cake will do. Perhaps genetics run deeper than hair and eye color. I’m not sure when, or how, her cravings for this started, but she’s in constant search of coffee cake when we go out these days. It helped use up some of those cherries lingering in the fridge, and served as breakfast the next morning.Ĭoffee cake came to mind thanks to Virginia. This Sweet Cherry Coffee Cake solved two problems. I suspect one of my besties will be shaking her head when she reads that last sentence. I know, that seems inconceivable to me, too. Still, I needed to do something with these cherries, and didn’t feel like making pie. I pitted and froze some, and ate my weight in some more. Cherry season was coming to an end, and I’d lost my mind, buying more than I could possibly consume. I now found myself drowning in too many cherries. Even the gals at the farmstand said it was the best blueberry muffin they’d ever eaten.Ī couple of days later, not only did my blueberries runneth over. I realize that’s a big thing to say, but try the recipe for yourself, and you’ll see it’s true. Seriously, those muffins are the best ever. The girls were so excited when they woke up the next morning. I pulled out the spring issue of City Girl, Country Kitchen, and decided to make a batch of my Old Fashioned Blueberry Muffins after dinner. Looking at the containers piled around the kitchen, making blueberry muffins seemed a good way to use up some of them. I’d over bought blueberries at the farmstand. It started as a muffin making session a few days earlier. Such was the case with this Sweet Cherry Coffee Cake. So, when I’m developing new recipes, often I’m trying to recreate something out of nothing more than a taste memory. The rest of the the year, baked goods were either bought from the Italian pastry shop, College Bakery, or courtesy of Entenmann’s. Then the stand mixer came out, gingerbread was rolled almost paper thin, and patience was found to coax butter cookie dough through the spritz press. My mom wasn’t a big baker growing up, unless we’re talking about the month of December. solder the wire into place and your done with the wiring. Place the wire on one, strum the guitar and if nothing happens try the next until you can hear the guitar come out of the radio.Ĥ. Now with your guitar plugged into the input jack, test each of the solder pads on the volume pot. Just solder the end of the wire to the negative battery terminal.ģ. In the pictures I have attached a yellow wire to the negative solder point on the jack. So which wire on the input jack do you solder on to the negative terminal? Well on a jack the tip is the "hot" section meaning its positive and the side is the negative section. There's already solder there (you'll have to add more though) and it's easy to identify.Ģ. The easiest place to solder the wire is on the negative terminal inside the battery case. One of the wires needs to be soldered to a negative point on the radio. On my second however I accidentally messed the wiring up and everything still worked! I'll go through how I wired this one up first and then let you know what I did on the second.ġ. On my first radio I followed the below steps. The next steps involve attaching the wires from the jack to the inside of the radio. It is definitely worth though experimenting and seeing what type of sound you can get out of the small "transistor" type radio's. Radios which take a 9v or AA batteries won't give you the best sound. Try and find a radio which takes "C" or "D" batteries as these will give you the best result. The size and quantity of the batteries that the radio takes will effect the tone!! The bigger the size of battery the fuller the tone and the more volume the radio will have. Look for a radio that's at least 5 by 5 inches or so with at least a 3 inch speaker that will ensure the speaker is big enough to have an effect on the tone. This is due to the small, crappy speaker that they come with. If the radio has no handle and a wrist strap or is in a little leather case it will be a bit too small to waste you time with. You can modify small transistor radios but you'll probably find that they aren't very loud or have any distortion. The trick is to find one that has some style and is large enough to pump out some decent sound. There isn't really many radio's that can't be modified into an amp. The second radio was a little more older but I found that this was even easier to hack! The back just clipped off and there as some cardboard hiding all of the electronics! The radio that I hacked isn't anything too vintage, but I wanted to start on something that didn't matter if I messed it up or not. Below I have included some notes on what to look for when your out searching for a vintage radio to convert. I'm no expert on this hack, but after some research and a little experimentation, there are some radio's that will work better than others. So if you have a vintage radio lying about gathering dust, it’s time to crack it open and turn it into something beautiful.Ĭheck out this website - it has some wicked ideas on how to convert radio's into amps and is a great source of information You’ll probably find that the speaker hisses or rattles, the volume jumps around or it has some other left-of-centre feature which is what makes these amps so cool. When you get your hands on a radio that you want to hack, there is a good change that it would have seen some miles. There is also the added bonus of creating your very own sound as no 2 radios are ever alike. It’s a real raw and dirty sound which is perfect for playing some bluesy riffs. The distinct “Lo-fidelity” sounds that come out of these vintage radio’s will really surprise you. Well hacking a radio (especially a vintage radio) gives you the most amazing vintage tone. You may be thinking why in hell would I want to do that! What this hack allows you to do is to tap into the radio’s amplifier so you can play guitar through it. This is probably one of my favourite hacks that I have ever stumbled across! It’s so simple that anyone with a soldering iron and screwdriver can do it.Īll radios have an amplifier built into them – it’s how your able to increase the volume. ^ Back to Top ^ © 2023 ESPN Internet Ventures. Harper has never hit less than 13 homers in a season, and one of those years was in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 year. The Phillies entered the game with 57 homers in August, third most for any team in the month in MLB history. Harper and the Phillies found their groove in August. One of the last things we said about video games that day was that they would be fun to study in some small research projects. I also wondered what kinds of motor and reflex skills the games were training in us. They took us away from the pressure of graduate school for a short time and gave us a chance to act out some of our competitive urges. What percentage of Linux users do you think would be unable to use that solution? 10%? 20%? Of the 1-2% linux desktop portion of the market? Of course, I would be in that group, but I can't imagine that it would be a hugely significant portion of their overall market. * - Note that for them a reasonable workaround is: borrow someone else's PC. That said, hopefully linux-based netbooks might help push the numbers in our favor. But when it comes to limited development resources and priorities, which do you think ranks higher: fixing important bugs in the Windows/Mac software, adding new features to help sell the product, or supporting a niche platform for which there MAY be workarounds* anyway? They actually seem like a fairly open company (compared to Garmin), and they've definitely shown willingness to consider a Linux port. Naturally they're going to support the most popular platforms first. (Disclaimer: I have no connection or inside knowledge about the company, but I've worked for enough small companies to know how their resources are usually allocated.) Tom Tom is not en enormous company, and you'd probably be surprised at how few developers they have. I will advice my friends not to buy tom tom.Chill out. It is utter lack of respect for the customers that tom tom is not willing to release software for the linux user. I feel that this will be small job of configuration to make the pc pretend that it is a GPRS capable telephone. This is a good news in our research and I wish you, guys, also get there to help us find solution. I found, this morning, that the bluez, bluetooth application that come from the box in Ubuntu 8.10, is the one TomTom use to connect to devices. I'll try to find out about that soon and if you also want to check that this is the link to the page: There is howto, little outdated and for rpm (fedora) but still we can have an idea about the way. Making your PC pretending that it is a GPRS capable telephone connected over bluetooth. As far as I know it's not possible to make it work under Wine properly but there is another way maybe we could do it. Of course, if you do miss a particular turn or exit, the Go 930 recalculates the route based on your current location and gets you back on track. Changing Voices sometimes resulted in garbled audio, but that was eliminated by restarting the device.I also own TomTom GO930 and would like to make it work with Linux. To prevent you from missing a turn, the 930 speaks when a turn is upcoming-far enough before the intersection that you don’t drive past it. As you drive along the route, the GPS gives you visual and audible indicators to keep you on the right path. You provide the starting and ending points the GPS creates the routes. And if you spot an error or obsolete item on a TomTom map, the program’s MapShare features will let you submit a correction, which others can use.Īs with most automotive GPS devices, the Go 930 can tell you how to get to a particular destination. If you’ve recorded a route you’re particularly fond of, you can use the software to help you share it with other TomTom users. The program, which you can also download from the company’s Web site, also lets you purchase and share content, including custom voices (called NavTones in the program), which it will load onto your GPS via the included USB cable and dock. The TomTom Home 2.5 software allows you to manage the maps, media, POIs (points of interest), and map corrections loaded on your Go 930 unit, or any other TomTom GPS you buy (we used the Go 930 as a test unit for the software). |
